A match is an arena brawl. The remaster commits to Rage Mode strikes, buildings used as weapons, local co-op, online PvP, and a single-player campaign for each kaiju.
Pipeworks developed the remaster and Atari publishes it. Online multiplayer is the addition next to local co-op. The 2002 game did not have that online mode.

What a fight includes
1
Rage Mode
Every monster has special Rage Mode strikes, from melee hits to ranged energy blasts. The 2002 chart marks a Rage Attack row that requires Rage Mode, and those button rows live on the move page. Gigan is the only body on that chart with two Rage attacks. The remaster describes the strikes and does not print a new button chart.
2
Environment weapons
Arenas let you weaponize buildings and other landmarks. The store line about throwing a skyscraper is that same rule. The city screenshot on this page shows a concrete block in the air and rubble between the fighters. Stage hazards, such as Monster Island's volcanic ground, are a separate list on the arena page.
3
Local co-op
Local play covers co-op plus shared or split-screen PvP. The category list also names Remote Play Together and full controller support. The October demo note listed 4 local players or 1v1 online, and Destruction Mode, for that demo window. Those demo figures are not printed as the full-game lobby size.
4
Online PvP
Online multiplayer is new relative to the 2002 release, and the category list includes Online PvP. Cross-platform play and a full-game player count are not named with that mode.
5
Kaiju campaigns
There is an additional single-player campaign for each kaiju. The roster has 12 fighters, so that is a campaign for each of them. Campaigns are separate from the any-order unlock for monsters, locations, and gallery items.
The June announcement describes this fight as an Unreal Engine 5 rebuild with 4K performance and 99% mechanical fidelity, and it names online matchmaking and haptics.
